Jackson Public Schools, Arise2Read, and multiple community partners. Mentoring and partnership program that helps improve student’s reading proficiency.
ARISE2Read is a partnership between community organizations/businesses and elementary schools to help students improve reading skills in order to reach or exceed grade level. The program focuses mainly on second graders and helps improve the students' reading proficiency by one-on-one mentoring using a simple sight-word approach and the reading of books.
Students in the program are mentored twice a week for 30 minutes each session. Churches or businesses with flexible employee work schedules are the primary target volunteer groups for ARISE2Read. Mentors serve at the school 1-hour a week and mentor the same two children each week in 30-minute sessions.
