Pearl River Central High School (Pearl River County School District)

Pearl River Central High School (Pearl River County School District) with multiple community partners. Student professional development that teaches life skills and provides experience.

In October 2019, Pearl River Central High School conducted its second annual Student Professional Development Day. This event teaches students life skills that are not included in the daily curriculum.  Community professionals are invited to share their knowledge and experience through engaging presentations and hands-on activities. Regardless of the route students take after they graduate, there are many skills they will need to be successful. This “professional development day” is designed to provide information that focuses on life skills. Students attend five different sessions on a variety of topics led by community members. Students ranked sessions on self-defense, law enforcement, mindful meditation, the military and college the most helpful. The project utilized 58 community members volunteering over 180 hours to conduct 240 interactive sessions.
