Pelahatchie High School (Rankin County School District) – “Multicraft Academy”

Multicraft International, a full-service manufacturer supplying world class electronic and electromechanical components, works with PHS to enhance education and training for students interested in manufacturing careers. Funded by RCSD, Multicraft Academy provides a two-year manufacturing course curriculum leading to Basic Manufacturing Certification, OSHA Certification and a Silver Level Career Readiness Certificate. The program is free to students and counts as college credit for those who plan to pursue two- or four-year degrees or Career Technical Education Certifications. 

Activities:

• Paid internships for seniors and work-study programs for incoming seniors

• Hands-on training on manufacturing systems and equipment

• Students have direct interaction and Q&As with employees and Multicraft engineers

• Students participated in product design project for Multicraft Ventures

Impacts:

• 9 students enrolled in first year of two-year program

• 43 junior high and 9th graders in pipeline taking Career Explorations, impacting 14% of junior and senior high schools

• Academy plans to become certified as an Adult Craft Center for the community

• Qualified students may enroll in Hinds Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Program without taking prerequisite courses
