Pelahatchie High School (Rankin County School District)
Partner: Multicraft International
Students impacted: 41
Volunteers: 25-30
Duration of partnerships: 2 years
In August 2017, Multicraft International and Pelahatchie High School opened the Multicraft Academy on the PHS campus to enhance education and training for students interested in manufacturing careers. Last year program leaders determined that students would benefit if classes met at Multicraft’s manufacturing facility until the new Industrial Maintenance Academy was built at PHS. Multicraft cleared approximately 2,000 square feet of floor space for the students’ shop area, where PHS students built electrical, mechanical, plumbing/piping, carpentry and safety work stations from scratch. Students are transported to Multicraft for classes and must comply with the same rules and regulations as Multicraft employees.
Activities:
- Students must pass NCCER written and performance tests to participate
- Multicraft representatives participate in students’ performance evaluations
- Students actively engage with Multicraft employees and managers
- Students learn about safety culture and workplace rules and regulations
Impacts:
- Students earned college credits and industry-recognized certifications
- Students earning a Silver level on NCRC exam qualify for dual enrollment credit at no charge
- Students acquired skills to prepare for variety of manufacturing jobs
