Lillie Burney S.T.E.A.M. Academy is a 6th grade school designed for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. This year the school partnered with Community Cohort members and organizations in an effort to maintain and increase attendance and good behavior. We decided to streamline the work of our Community Cohort by assigning them to work with specific teams. The Community Cohort are also members of our P-16 Council.

Activities:
  • Volunteers greet students at start of school day
  • Donate gift cards and gift items for “teacher bags”
  • Support campus clean-up days
  • Support and participate in PBIS celebrations
Impacts:
  • From August-November, 254 out of 309 students enrolled at S.T.E.A.M. had zero to 1 referral (76% success with Tier I Positive Behavior Incentive System)
  • Partners have formed valuable two-way relationships with staff and students
  • Used Self-Directed Improvement System to monitor discipline and attendance reports
