Marion County School District (2023)
East Marion High School's ACC Committee (Academics, Climate, Culture) has developed community partnerships to improve three essential aspects of a school environment. These aspects are student academic achievement, school climate, and school culture. By embracing these three components, we are altering community perception of our school and creating a positive educational environment. In addition, we are increasing parental presence and stakeholder participation.
The ACC Committee began the school year by partnering with Wendy’s. The first day of school carried a very important theme. That theme was “It’s cool to be in school.” Each child received a free frosty from Wendy’s. This act laid the foundation for an improvement in climate. The first month of school also contained our parent open house. However, this open house was definitely “Nacho-Average Open House.” Thanks to Walmart, we were able to serve over 250 parents, students, and community member’s nachos. In addition, troops from the 3656th Army National Guard Company served the nachos to or visitors. Many of the troops in the unit also donated door prizes.
Throughout the year, we have had a multitude of events that were made possible by our community partnerships. Thanks to the Olive Garden, we were able to host “Pasta with the Principal.” This allowed us the opportunity to host a workshop for parents. It gave them methods and information regarding assisting their children at home. Sonic has provided slushies to our students who grew on their universal screeners. Dominos has provided pizza to students who have projected proficiency. Target donated over 1,000 notebooks to our students to insure all children have the necessary materials to succeed. These community partnerships have allowed us to improve in all targeted areas of deficiency.
